Numeracy Tasks: Beyond the Graduation Assessment

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

The rationale for the new BC Mathematics K-12 curriculum begins by stating that it “aims to ensure that citizens are numerate and have mathematical habits in mind.” In this session, I will share tasks I have been using with my classes to further develop student numeracy and nurture mathematical habits. These tasks are similar in some ways to the numeracy tasks on the Graduation Assessment. Participants will observe and discuss examples of student work and some early stage rubrics for assessing the curricular competencies through the tasks. There will be lots of time for discussion, and suggestions are welcome!

I am currently interested in developing and using tasks and assessments that promote student engagement, build ownership and understanding of the curricular competencies, and help students to improve their ability to self-assess their competencies (content and curricular).
